[sure hope there’s some Windows brainiaks around on the weekend to help]…

OK…purchased a new machine (ADK Pro Audio) for the recording/mastering studio; & attempted to set it up w/ my audio interface (Lynx Aurora8/AES16) earlier this evening. Got the AES16 installed (which is the PCI component…the Aurora8 is the breakout box, w/ the A/D/A converters & audio I/O’s.)

I fire up the new box…& at first was paying attention to the ‘New Hardware Wizard’ for the tasks of installing a new aftermarket keyboard & mouse I also purchased for the new rig. So I finally get around to installing the Lynx software (drivers & virtual mixer) from their CD-ROM. [Lynx has the user install everything from disk first…which goes into a specific folder on the C Drive. Then the New Hardware Wizard gets directed to the Lynx folder for the system driver install on reboot…when the wizard comes up.] This is their proprietary method.

But on reboot…the wizard no longer popped up, for some reason.

So I run it from the Control Panel…but it’s a different New Hardware Wizard configuration…in that, it only searches automatically…& doesn’t show the dialog that allows for a browse of locations for install. (???)

I know this isn’t the audio interface mfg.’s problem…it must be something to do w/ the way ADK configured my OS (XP Pro, 32-Bit) for audio, maybe…but what can I do now? ADK Support is closed for the weekend; & need to get my audio up & running (hopefully tonight.) Does anyone here know what I could possibly be doing wrong (if it’s me?…or Windows?) Is there a way to get the “full fledged” hardware wizard to run somehow (in order to browse to the Lynx folder for a successful driver install)?

    Could use some help.

    Thanks,

    mark4man

[BTW – Believe it or not…on top of all that…my ISP software (Verizon DSL) is now too old for the new computer…so I had to disconnect the new one; & reconnect the old one…just to come here & post the problem for you guys. This is maddening.]

I feel with you, not what one want with a new PC as a OOTB experience.

A silly question [and yes, it’s in the middle of the night here in Sweden]: are you logged on as a user with admin. privileges?

What you have in CP is “Add Hardware Wizard”; the thing that pop up is the (silly this, but they have to name them something) “Found New Hardware Wizard”.

And what do you see when you launch this “… doesn’t show the dialog that allows for a browse of locations for install”? I understand you can’t connect and post a screen shot, but maybe.

A little reading for you at the moment, when thinking of options & causes. The article doesn’t describe your problem exactly, but has a little info. under “More Information” that maybe can shed some light on how Windows support device install.
You Are Prompted for Administrator Credentials When You Try to Install a Plug and Play Printer

Yep, I have also been forced to connect an old computer to reach the Internet; worst case some year ago 486, 20 MB RAM, Windows 3.11 @ 19 kbit/s, wasn’t fun … grin

I’m not sure I completely understand the sequence of events or the audio hardware/software you are trying to add to the system, but it sounds to me like you were trying to do too many things at once. If the mouse and keyboard were new hardware for this system, you probably should have installed them first, or at least before you tried to install any hardware or software for the new Aurora 8 gear.

You might try to uninstall the software for the Aurora 8, reboot and then reinstall it. If that doesn’t do the trick, you probably should remove both the software and the hardware and start from the beginning. Hardware that has a sequence of installation such as this is often very particular about that sequence and won’t work unless you follow the instructions to the letter. HTH smile

      Argus…

I would do a screen shot…but I haven’t loaded ‘Paint Shop Pro’ yet (remember…I had to disconnect the new box & reconnect old box to come here.)

      Doc (or anyone)…

Lynx has a small program that removes install registry info (& one benefit I suppose is that the main hardware wizard will pop up again). Someone else told me there’s a way to navigate thru the auto search version to get to a browse functuion; & this afternoon I’ll try that also…

      …but in the meantime…

I stayed up half the night on this problem; & was going over specific mfg.’s documentation (mobo, power supply, etc.) & checking out everything else ADK sent me. To my dismay…when I looked at the OS disk..it read XP Pro-Version 2002– Copyright 2004; & I started thinking, “did these guys load me an old operating system?” if they did, I intend to make them make it right…but in the mean time, can you (or anyone) please tell me:

      1) Where can I co on my computer to get the information on exactly which version my OS is?

      2) Can you also tell me where exactly I can go on my computer to find out which tweaks they made for audio efficiency? (Services, Performance, etc.)

[if they did load me an older OS…& I then get an up-to-date one…I want to be able to initiate their tweaks to it (& they’re sort of closed-lipped about all that)].

Thanks Argus & Doc for all your help,

      mark4man

I’m on my way out right now, but if you right click on My computer and select properties, that will give you the information about your OS on the General tab.
