I think I know the cause, but don’t know how to resolve. I have not yet been able to connect with the laptop vendor for help. So decided to ask for help here.

First bootup of new machine loading batch of updates for Win 11 24H2. All okay but for Intel drivers, Intel Corp Display/Extension 31.0.101.5445. The update of the drivers was a failure , error 0x80070103. Did a retry, same result but update history now shows drivers successfully installed, but error for the two drivers still there with retry button for each of them. Further update now shows a newer Intel driver 32.0.101.6559.

I suspect the first set of drivers won’t go away because a new one got installed? I’ve tried multiple fixes, incl clearing update cache vis deleting Software Distribution, ran the Troubleshooter(no fix), stopped & restarted services.msc, Ran DISM restorehealth and SFC /scannow afterward. So, Iran everything as administrator and restarted the machine after each attempt. The failed updates are still there. I looked in stalled updates under control panel and there are 4 entries. I don’t know how to identify what’s new and what’s old. Considered just leaving them and hope some update sometime will remove them?

    Appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

You don’t say what make and model your computer is. But it sounds like Microsoft updates replaced the OEM Intel Display drivers with the wrong ones.
You should go to the OEM’s support website and download the drivers for your model of the Intel Display that are correct for your hardware. You can find that information in the owner’s manual (if it is supplied as a PDF on your computer, or in the Control Panel under Device Manager, or by running msinfo32.exe. You will also need the model or S/N of the computer to identify in on the OEM’s website (if it’s a Dell it will be the Service Code you need).

The laptop is an Origin Eon16-X, so I will see if the owners manual addresses the proper drivers. Thanks.

The owner’s manual will address the hardware.
The OEM’s website will list the correct driver for that hardware.
The manual will probably not list the driver, because it gets revised periodically and will not be the same as when the manual was published.

The failed updates are still there.

The update “history” is exactly what is says… a history of every update attempt, regardless of whether if failed or succeeded.

FYI, Windows users have been looking for a way to remove “failed updates” from the update history for many years and, so far, no one has found a way to do so without completely removing the entire update history!

So, the laptop is running the latest Intel Driver 32.0.101.6559. I’m just not going to fool with it anymore and try to remove the failed ones. The laptop seems to run just fine. Someday it’ll fix…just not now.

When you want to know which updates have truly installed ask the system.

Open a command window and enter the command below and press the Enter key for a list of installed updates:

          systeminfo | find “KB”

If you desire a list with installed dates:

          wmic qfe list brief
