    Looks like the re-issued botched October patch is just as bad as the original. Maybe worse.InfoWorld Tech Watch

      KB3033929 seems to fail mostly on dual-boot systems with Win7 and another OS installed on separate hard disk partitions (both 64bit). Haven’t installed the 32bit edition of the KB3033929 update yet on my Win7 x86 computer and will wait for a while for Microsoft to sort things out with that one.

      @EP

      Yep, it looks like it’s GRUB’s fault…

    • #51637

      @woody,

      Some users who do not have dual-boot systems are being affected too.

    • #51638

      @Jim: what kinds of non dual-boot systems that are affected (where’s the proof)? I have recently installed the KB3033929 update on a custom built computer with Win7 SP1 x86 Pro edition and the update succeeded without fail. And no other disk partitions were on there; just one HD partition with 32bit Windows 7 and using the default Windows boot loader.

      @EP,

      The Microsoft Community site has posts from multiple users who have had problems on single-boot systems. Here are a few comments:

      “I only use Windows 7 so I have no use for a boot loader and I have not installed any.”

      “For me it was KB3035131 hanging an HP workstation before CTRL ALT DEL. No dual booting, only one HD but uninstalling the patch from safe mode has sorted things.”

      “I do not believe this problem has anything to do with dual boot systems. After reading many forum complaints on the web, this problem is affecting machines in all types of configurations. Many have never had any dual boot system installed and are still affected by the update failure….”

      “I have seen nothing from Microsoft concerning the resolution of this issue, why some systems can update and others cannot, whether they are dual-boot or have never been.”

      @Jim & @Woody: Microsoft had acknowledged the problem with the KB3033929 update on Monday March 16 and MS KB article 3033929 was updated to reflect the problem on dual-boot systems with Windows 7 and Linux:
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3033929

      I have downloaded & installed the KB3033929 update manually through the Microsoft Download Center on several computers, some of them using 32bit editions of Windows 7 and others with 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium edition and the KB3033929 update proceeded successfully with no problems encountered.

      Also the KB3033929 update supersedes/replaces the KB2982378 & KB3004394 updates for Windows 7 as noted in MS KB article 894199. And KB3033929 supersedes/replaces the newly released KB3035131 security update for Windows 7 as noted in MS KB article 3035131. If you install only KB3033929 but not KB3035131, the KB3035131 update won’t install because the files in KB3035131 are already included in KB3033929. confusing, huh?

      After reading Susan Bradley’s March 26 post, I went ahead and installed the March Win 7 Security and IE updates to include KB303929. I’m relieved to say I have experienced no problems. As always, I hide the optional updates (did not install them) per Woody’s suggestion.

      I have just now tried to install from updates and from manually downloading the patch and neither work. trying to install to windows 7 Pro x64 with 6GB ram and plenty HD space. will not install. it gets all the way, reboots. says it is applying the updates and then says it is reverting because it failed.

    • #51643

      @Buddy

      Try installing all available updates. See if that carries KB 3033929 in with the tide.

      I’m having troublr loading kb3033929. I have an amd x64 system and it will not load. Tried all the silly stuff from microsoft. don’t they know their software by now.

      @JohnB

      Don’t sweat the small stuff. Get yourself onto build 10240 – otherwise known as Windows 10 RTM, released July 29.
