      A hint regarding ‘why not’ (d/l/i MSE) would be nice.

      Expect updates for Reader and Acrobat next week.

      Flash Player for Linux updates to 11.2.202.406, Solaris to 11.2.202.223.

      Chrome got an update on Tuesday, September 9, which catches up its internal (Pepper) Flash Player to the rest of the browsers.

      Looks like there is an issue resulting in false positive DEXO/DOS after update, specific for dell notebooks or some disk type commonly found in dell notebook

      Hi Woody,

      I assume that you are recommending the MSE update, even though we’re at Defcon 2 for all the other M$ patches.

      The MSE update appears as a Windows Update, even though it can be downloaded directly from M$.

      Thanks.

      M.

      Recieved the Microsoft Security Essentials at 11.5MB. You said to always install MSE so I did and it installed in less than a minute.

    • #52466

      @Marty

      Yes, you should always install the MSE update.

      I await an answer as to why XP users should not download/install the MSE update.

    • #52468

      @flavet –

      Give it a try, but it shouldn’t install. If you find out something different, yell!

      The Adobe Reader 11 update came through okay but I’m still waiting for the Flash updates and it’s Sept. 22. A notice is supposed to come up and notify me of any updates. If you hadn’t told me about them, I wouldn’t know I’m supposed to get them (Active X & Firefox Plugin). Guess I’ll keep waiting, or should I have gotten them already? Going after them at the adobe website is pain in the you know what.

      Not to encourage people to keep using Windows XP online, but doesn’t the Microsoft Safety Scanner work with Windows XP? It’s a download, stand-alone scanner-only version of MSE’s scanning engine with definitions. Has to be downloaded each time before using, and expires each ten days. NOT a replacement for active antivirus, but gives the scanning of MSE without the issues of not being Windows XP compatible.

      For Windows XP, Avast, AVG and Malwarebytes Pro all offer active AV for Windows XP users. I strongly recommend a HIPS Firewall for Windows XP, such as Commodo Personal Firewall (skip their Internet Security).

      But my real recommendation for Windows XP users is to upgrade when time and resources allow.

      @Charlie

      Yeah, it’s better to go over there and get patched.

      Woody,
      Doesn’t MSE update itself?
      Do I have to go to Windows Update or the MSE site?
      Thanks,
      Morty

      @Morty

      Yep, it updates itself, but the updates usually appear in Windows Update for a few hours before they’re automatically applied.

      MSE updates are always applied, no matter how you set the Windows Automatic Update setting. Which is a good thing.
