While researching a recent problem with Zone Alarm Pro, I was checking the Event Log and was concerned when I saw two new error types… not warnings, but true “errors”. I was able to track both of the errors back to the day (March 3, 2008) after updating with SP1. They are in no way associated with Zone Alarm since I only re-activated Zone Alarm a few days ago.

The first error is Event ID 15016 with a description of: “Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number.” Research has indicated that this error can be ignored.

The second error is more of a mystery as I am unable to find any information on this item. The Event ID is 2 and carries a General Description of “Performance power management features on processor 1 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.” There are two of these errors, one reflecting “processor 0” and the second for “processor 1”.

The Event ID 15016 and Event ID 2 items occur each and every time the system is booted. There does not appear to be an operational problem with my environment. My motherboard is the ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe and is running with the current BIOS release v603. The processor is an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 650 3.40 GHz.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Cheers, Bob

      Hi Bob,
Well as you say, the first error (Kerberos) can be ignored (as per this article ). There are several threads on the second error (power management) but no definitive resolution. Both apparently are definitely a result of SP1.

        Hi John,

        Thanks for your research efforts.

Checking the various power management threads offers no real clues as to what the resolution might be. Some think that a BIOS update might help. However, in my case I am running the current release. There is a later release but classed as “beta”. I might try that route. There again, the descriptive makes a specific reference to “processor”. Does that mean a possible firmware update for the processor? Haven’t seen any firmware updates for my relatively new CPU that could address the issue.

Since this error only started with the application of SP1, I wonder what specific KB might affect the Event 2 error? Time to call / write MS to see if they can help.

        Thanks again,

        Cheers, Bob
