New Burned disc wont read on same PC

Have you seen this on Windows XPPro SP3 computers:

You have a project to duplicate alot of discs, like over 20 both CDs and DVDs.

After a while, when you finish a copy, you place it on the same Disc Drive and launch Windows Explorer. The CD shows up and the main directory, but you cannot read it or expand.

You try it on another PC and the disc is readable and all the data is there.

Meanwhile on your own PC, you log out and then log back in and sure enough, that CD/DVD you could not read before is now readable.

Is there some Cache limit in the system that is being reached and no longer able to read the discs???

Might be that the drive is beginning to show signs of failing.

I’ve seen something similar when a drive has been used constantly for a while. I guessed that it was a heat issue although it could be the drive is failing.

Good point Joe. I haven’t done any “mass burning” in quite a while but seem to recall something like that happening on occasion when I did. At the time, home CD burning was relatively new and I wrote it off to the inefficiencies of the hardware as it hasn’t happened since the days of Windows 98.

I suppose that is why there is specialized equipment for mass production of CDs/DVDs.

I think you may well see this problem with any drive. I think that they overheat after writing too many CDs in a row and you have to let them cool down. See [post=”786218″]Post 786218[/post] for a description of another similar problem.
