    People,

Just setup my new Dell 8250, with which I ordered a 19″ LCD monitor…& am disappointed with the performance & was hoping some members could shed some light on my newfound difficulties.

First of all, some web sites have the pages displayed (including prominent sites, such as msn.com), full left…with a margin on the right. On my old monitor, a 17″ CRT, all web sites filled the screen. I have seen 19″ CRT’s; & they too have the web page displayed proportional to the screen size (full.) Is this a characteristic of LCD monitors, or a matter of how web builders size their pages? I’m wondering why I always saw the full page on my old monitor; & this one has margins with some sites. (My screen res is set to 1024 X 768, which seems to look normal in all other aspects.)

Secondly, the quality of the display itself seems to be very poor; & lacking sharpness & detail. Text is actually fuzzy (even in XP’s “Clear Type” mode.) My salesperson at Dell misunderstood my intentions; & sent me a machine with the wrong video card (GeForce4 MX 420), which only has VGA output. Dell is now sending me a new card (Readon 9000 Pro), which of course has DVI. Will the digital output improve the quality of the display?

    Thanks in advance,

According to Dell, the optimal resolution for their 19″ flat panel monitor is 1280 by 1024. See if setting it to that resolution helps.

(I recently got a Dell 8250 with the GeForce4 MX 420 video card and the 1702FP 17″ flat panel monitor, and I am very satisfied with it.)

        I don’t have a flat monitor, but until last week, I was using 1024 x 768 on a 19 inch monitor.
Switching to 1280 x 1024, these old eyes are getting used to the setting, does seem to display things better.

I also have a Dell 8250 with the GeForce4 MX 420 graphics card but the “cheapo” Dell 17″ E171FP LCD monitor running at 1152 x 864, and the results are extremely good IMHO!

            Thanks everybody.

Took a closer look at the detail, by scrolling various text based documents up & down the screen. There were 2 or 3 lateral bands…thin horizontal strips…where the text was very blurry as it scrolled through.

I phoned Dell hardware support; & they said that meant there was a definite problem with the monitor. They are replacing it!

            Thanks again,

using the DVI will not result in a better display. also lcd’s still have native screen resolutions (most 19′ are at 1280*1024), other resolutions often are blurried (lower and higher)
