I’m out of my depth here, hoping someone can point me in the right direction…
I have an HP4500DN printer plugged in to the back of an ADSL modem/router.
I didn’t set it up, and it worked fine.
I had to reboot the router and I suspect (but don’t know) that the IP address has changed.
Anyway, the result is that the printer no longer does the biz..
    A pointer, please?
    Winxp sp everything home.

      What make/model of modem/router?

Does the modem/router otherwise work? – i.e. I presume you can still access the internet?

      Have you restarted the printer?

If you try and (re)install the printer, does the wizard find it?

I assume that “HP4500DN printer plugged in to the back of an ADSL modem/router” means that the printer is connected to one of the Ethernet ports, and is therefore accessible on your home network.

I have a similarly configured printer, and I used the setup menus on my router to force it to always give the same IP address to the Printer. You can probably do something similar, but you will have to investigate the router menus to find out how – or tell us which model of router and someone may be able to help.

To get the printer working again from your computers you should find the IP address of the printer (probably available on a menu on the printer itself, as well as from your router) look at the printer properties, go to the Ports tab, click Configure Port, and set the “Printer name or address” to match your printers IP Address.

If I may suggest. Change the router’s IP address and the make it DCHP. After that, on each puter install/ add a new printer, actually it will be the one you have, and that should do it.
