Windows 10 release 2004. My first experiences this day. New Dell Precision 5820 arrived! And I have a silly question.

Does anybody else noticed lets say “interesting” network icon behavior on the system tray? Do I understand it correct, that

    • plugged ethernet cable with no internet access

    and

    • ethernet cable unplugged completely

have the same icon? (Globe with small sign in the bottom right corner)

Am I missing something here, or is it really that stupid, that you must point the mouse over so you can tell if you are connected to company network?

Is it different to 1909/3 icon behaviour?

      cheers, Paul

Sometimes the icon tray can be so corrupted that you can’t tell the difference

Just someone who don't want Windows to mess with its computer.

      doriel,

I believe that the “globe” icon is the standard, whenever you’re not connected to the internet. I see it most often when my ISP drops the connection.

(BTW, thanks for the verbal description of the icon; if you posted a copy of the icon, I can’t see it on my computer.)

Never saw a globe icon for network. Mine is a display icon. 1909 Pro. Wired network.

Disconnect from the Internet and see what it looks like.

You were right 🙂 disconnected its a globe.
Never paid attention to the icon when rarely disconnected.

Yes, but its good place to start when troubleshooting. I always start from the most simple solution and continue to complexier (is that gramatically correct?) solutions.

      Wired company network.

Cable connected, no internet access (user has not granted internet access)

      conn

      Cable disconnected completely

      disconn

Why is the icon still the same? I find this very confusing. this is not good feature update to me.
