I use Outlook 98 for e-mail and would like to find a small cheap program to send messages across my network. Does anybody know if one exists? I know I can reload Outlook for workgroups but it is so temperamental I do not want to disturb the installation.

    Thanks in anticipation of replies.

      What kind of network? (P2P/domain?)
What operating systems do you have?
Do you want simple pop-up messages that once viewed, disappear? – or something that stores them (as Outlook)?

It is a P2P network, using XP Home one side and WIN 98SE the other. I really want messages to pop up and tell my grandchildren to make me a cup of coffee, nothing really serious. I have just networked two computers together via a Router/Access Point/Switch. The children play on the net.

Why not use MSN Messenger or some other IM program? Free and Easy to use.

Thanks for all the prompt replies, I have a great choice of programs. I will trial a few (or one if it looks good) and paste a reply to this post.

I’m not too sure what you mean by “across my network,” but why not give Thunderbird a try? It’s free !

I stumbled onto a little program WinMessenger, liked the sound of it, downloaded and installed. My 12 year old granddaughter and 9 year old grandson spent hours sending messages to each other. The program is so simple, achieves the result and virtually requires very little resources. I have registered. Which is a lifetime registration.
There may be better, but this is so simple. One license covers all computers.

The program is available from website
