I’m trying to control my network connection using a program I just found called netbalancer. The problem is it keeps telling me” Error in program main. Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified.”

I’m using my laptop as a wireless interface for my friends XBOX360 since his mom blew the circuit that allowed us a direct connection to the router. (Old house where outdoor lights, TV’s, Microwaves, ect. all get attached to the same circuit.) I’m also trying to torrent something (I’ve placed a serious limit on it of 50KB/s) and I’m posting this. The netbalancer app is supposed to make it possible to control bandwidth with a priority system so I wanted to try giving the shared connection priority.

I assume you have a direct connection from your laptop to the xbox and then wireless to the router? I’m not sure anything will allow you to limit bandwidth through your laptop, only for applications running on the machine.
How have you got the xbox connected?

      cheers, Paul

Exactly as you surmised. A wireless connection to his router and a direct connection from my LAN port to his XBox’s LAN port. I used the same wire he was using to connect his XBOX to his home router (I didn’t have any other wires available). I’m not sure if netbalancer would be able to work for this either but, it’s the only program I could find for managing bandwidth. I essentially hoping to give the shared connection as much power as it needed and have mine use whats left (the opposite of how it probably works with a primary, secondary connection setup).

The way I set my laptop up to connect to him was by:
right clicking on the name of his router under the wireless icon
        clicking status
        clicking properties
        going into sharing (tab)
checking both boxes (needed to get all the features out of this setup)

I don’t have the source of the info off hand (Not sure if I saved the link or not) but, if you do a search you could probably find it.
