Not sure if this is a question for this forum or XP, so I’m going to post in both places.
I recently installed a 3rd party application that required the .NET framework to be installed. I downloaded from Microsoft and installed it, along with the application. Now whenever I start XP I get the user login screen, with my user name, since I’m the only user. In the User Profiles I now find that as well as me, as administrator, and a currently un-enabled Guest profile, there’s also a profile for ASP.NET. It’s a password protected profile so I don’t know if I can alter it, but I’d really rather that XP started cleanly without the user sign-on screen.

    Any Ideas?

I see the same new users on my Win2k system. I never noticed this (or bothered to look) until I read your post. I guess it makes sense in some way but I do not know the internals of how this all works. Since these users were installed by .Net Framework I’m sure they’re needed. It’d be easy enough to test as you said, just delete those new users and try to run your .Net app. You can always re-install Framework. Their use may not always show up for all apps though. If your .Net app doesn’t use ASP I guess that user profile won’t be invoked.

      Deb cheers

So it seems, having read through the various other posts you pointed me to ( When is the SEARCH function coming back? ) that I could disable the ASP.NET user without too many problems. I’ll give it a go.
