    I have messed up my .scr files because i have dissociate them and I want to put it back
    at the default setting in Win7.

    So my question is what is the default program that is used in win7 to open .scr files. Thank you.

      HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\scrfile
      FtSCR2

      There are several hits in the Registry for scrfile. One indicates that the program is Explorer.

      Post back if you want a complete set; but note that there may be other bits and pieces than scr and scrfile. I don’t know.

      Probably a Windows screen saver file. I’m not sure you associate them with anything, it’s a special handler using Control Panel.

      Look in the registry (run regedit) for “.scr”.
      Press Ctrl F to search (F3 to search again), type “.scr”, without the quotes.
      It should be under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
      Now search for “scrfile” under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. It should have multiple sub-entries.

      Fire up the screen saver in Control Panel screen properties and see if you can set a saver.
