Need good replacement for my old CaptureWiz

My old capturewiz doesn’t work properly in win7, had hard time even installing same but need a good replacement that for windows 7 (64bit).

I like to draw an area to capture and copy/print or email.

What do you guys use? A freebie would be Great.

Have you tried the inbuilt snipping tool? It’s a bit basic but may match your needs.

Click the start orb, type snip in the search box and click snipping tool.

You can also find it in the Accessories folder located in the start menu/all programs. With a right click, you can pin it to the start menu or taskbar. You can also create a shortcut to it on your desktop through the send function.

The Snipping Tool is a great basic tool, but isn’t included with Windows 7 Starter.

Maybe so, but the OP did mention 64-bit Windows and AFAIK there ain’t no 64-bit version of Windows 7 Starter!

I’ve used a versatile program called HyperSnap for years. I love it. I think it will do everything you want and a lot more. It’s not freeware, but it’s moderately priced. Not long ago I tried SnagIt for a few months. It has many of the same features as HyperSnap and some that HS doesn’t have, but I found I much prefer HyperSnap–I find it faster, easier to use, and less expensive than SnagIt. I also appreciate the HyperSnap developer’s responsiveness in the forum.

You may also consider trying FastStone Capture, which was recommended here in the Lounge. The last free version available can be downloaded here. I liked it so much that I purchased a family license. Current version and website can be seen here.

I second the motion for FastStone Capture 5.3. It’s one of the few free screen capture products that can capture an entire scrolling document or web page. Another good one is Screenshot Captor (http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/index.html).

Been using Gadwin Print Screen (http://www.gadwin.com) for over a year. Splendid utility that lets you capture a full screen or any part of it. Easy to use, instantly invoked by any key combination you want (“PrintScreen” button is obvious choice) and I’ve never had a glitch with it. I use it a lot, too, including for things like copying photos into emails.

WOW, I didn’t know there were so many options!

I was struggling here to get something off of my screen, one day, and my friend and Software GURU was here and he suggested I get “Photo Filtre”, a French program. It’s FREE!

Now I won’t set up a PC without it. I installed it and put a shortcut to it in my Quick Launch Toolbar.
If there’s something on the monitor screen that I want to save and print, or just archive, I just press the “Print Scrn” key on the keyboard, to send the screen to the clipboard.
Then I click the Photo Filtre icon on the task bar to open the program. It comes up with a large empty slate where I paste my clipboard image.
Then I can crop, resize, and otherwise edit my image before I save it or print it, or both.
I can even add text to the image, or blurrrrr out areas, like license plate numbers, etc.

When using Photo Filtre to work with old photos, for instance, I can crop, resize, add contrast, balance the colors, etc, to get the best quality print. It’s just a great all-around photo editor.

Sometimes we say things in jest, and then realize later that some readers may have taken us literally. I personally have Snap 5 on two computers and Snap 4 on another, and some readers really might be interested in it but may have been thrown off by my wording, for which I apologize. (No, no one leaned on me to change my tune, and yes, I really do have it.) It has capabilities that no other capture program that I know of has, and for the curious, the 40-day free trial might be worthwhile in its own right.
