ERRATUM to what I said in post 712,738 about “… discontinue updates …”.

I put this in a new thread, so those who may be interested can find the info. easily.

The official end of support for AVG Free 7.5 is NOT 31 May 2008. It has been mentioned since around the beginning of May [at AVG Free Forum], that the end of support and updates for AVG 7.5 Free is 31 December 2008.

Though: “If the date changes we will give you good forward notice.”

Sorry for mentioning the wrong date in the other thread. Being occupied with other issues, I have only looked at the AVG Free Forum and other places briefly the last weeks.

There has been some confusion on the net, and maybe still is, about the end date for AVG Free “support”.

As AVG users probably knows, the program sometimes updates the user interface etc. and I guess it’s then it gets info. such as the pop-up window many (all?) has seen the last month. But as mentioned there is a “Sticky post” at the Free forum from AVG Team/AVG Technologies added after, and as with most software it is at the support site one will find the latest information.

A little about the discussion, see for instance these threads [as the moderators say, it’s been discussed several times in May]:
Still warning that support will cease end of May!
AVG 7.5 FREE, ending or not? (with post by Michael Harper, AVG)
DEADLINE FOR AVG 7.5 FREE UPDATES 31/12/2008
    etc. etc.

What will happen 31 May? A lot of things I guess (heh, ask our Loungers down under, it’s already 31 May since some minutes), but related to AVG Free 7.5 updates, I don’t know. As it seems the end is 31 December 08, and as it says, they may shorten the time left.

Regardless of when support for AVG 7.5 ends, I personally would advise all users of its clunky interface to install AVG 8 to get a much-improved interface. Cleaner and better, but (of course!) still not 100% to my taste…

      BATcher

Plethora means a lot to me.

I agree with you about the interface; the old, the new and maybe still not 100 %. I guess those who have used it for a long time, are used to the UI (right-click here, select Configure there, or Properties there, or Settings, or …).

And as an update to the other post, since I brought up the topic.

As I expected, an update to the avgresf.dll file resulted in a change in the notifications on a PC with AVG Free 7.5. For some days no notifications, then 2 June an update to the “banner” file. Today a new notification, see screen shot.

So far no changes at the AVG Free Forum, though it generated a thread.
