I have a ASUS laptop with an extremely annoying behaviour.  Approx 10 mins after boot the ‘Welcome to MyASUS’ screen launches, not in the background but right on top of anything else on the screen.
I have tried to disable this from happening to no avail. Has anyone come across this annoyance and found a solution (besides uninstalling). It’s not in the list of startup programs.

    Cheers

Guess: delayed service, check services and disable if you don’t use MyASUS, should never see it again after that.

Also might be a “scheduled task” set to start ## mins after Windows startup or user login.

Open Windows Scheduler (taskschd.msc /s) and, if so, just disable or delete it.

Thanks for your suggestion it most definitely was a ‘scheduled task’ which now has been banished to the depths of digital hell.

However it is reinstated whenever a version update of MyASUS is performed.

The main reason I keep it is for its ‘battery charging mode’ function to help prolong its life as the laptop is mostly connected to mains power when in use.

        Cheers

If it gets reinstalled after every MyASUS update then, instead of deleting it, try disabling it.

I’ve found that “some” scheduled tasks that updates put in place only get created during the update process if they don’t already exist. If they do exist, the update doesn’t change them and they’ll stay disabled.

Worse comes to worse, you could create a batch file that runs at every startup to always delete that scheduled task.

@alejr’s suggestion above was also my first thought after you said that it wasn’t in the list of startup programs.

If the check of it being in the list of scheduled tasks mentioned above by alejr ( @bigal67 ) yields a negative result (i.e. it’s not in the list), try starting the application itself and click on the “Settings” icon (with the gear-looking symbol next to it) in the lower left corner of the application’s main page.

The answer to your issue might be within the application’s settings themselves, in the form of a one-line item that says something like “Start MyASUS after Windows startup”. If there’s a check mark next to it, I would think that simply clicking the preference’s name would remove that check mark and prevent MyASUS from starting after you start Windows.

The idea to check the setting within the app itself came from seeing an image of the app’s main screen on the following page:

      https://www.asus.com/us/support/MyASUS-deeplink/

However, you did say in your initial post that

…I have tried to disable this from happening to no avail. …

so I understand that statement might include already having checked within the app’s own settings. If so, my humble apologies for my suggestion above.

Based upon the image at the link above, another place to check (which you might have already checked), is in the item labeled “Customization” in the upper left hand corner of the app’s main window.

      I hope this helps!

Run Sysinternals Autoruns to see what ASUS processes start at launch. You can disable things from within Autoruns.

Just thought that I would add this here in case there is something related. I own a retail ASUS motherboard for a DIY build, rather than an OEM system, which sometimes has a few options locked down in the UEFI/BIOS.

I was recently trying to figure out why “ASUSUpdateCheck.exe” was getting re-installed after every boot, even though I had completely removed it from my system (or so I believed).

“The ASUS UEFI firmware exposes an ACPI table to Windows 10, called “WPBT” or “Windows Platform Binary Table”. WPBT is used in the pre-built OEM industry, and is referred to as “the Vendor’s Rootkit.” Put simply, it is a script that makes Windows copy data from the BIOS to the System32 folder on the machine and execute it during Windows startup – every single time the system is booted.”

      https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?111012-AsusUpdateCheck-exe-reappears-after-reboot

In my situation, this had nothing to do with ASUS Armoury Crate as discussed in the article, rather it was ASUSUpdateCheck that kept returning here. But the same principle applies.

So to disable this behavior on my system, I first had to remove ASUSUpdateCheck from Windows, then disable this magic (and not so intuitive) option in my UEFI/BIOS ‘Tool/Q-Installer’ menu.

Note from the UEFI/BIOS screen > “The Q-Installer is a fixed ACPI table that provides Windows with a platform binary that the operating system can execute.”

Shame on you ASUS for not disclosing this hidden behavior, and not documenting it in the manual!
