My shortcuts disappeared with update to 21H2

I just updated to Windows 21H2 and to my surprise and frustration (and anger!) some of the shortcuts on my monitor disappeared.  These were shortcuts to Excel, Word and PDF files on my desktop.  All that was left was a space on my monitor where they had been.  Unfortunately, I don’t have a record of them.  Is there anyway to determine what they were before the upgrade?  Why did the upgrade remove them anyway?

Short of restoring an image you may be out of luck.

Try searching the entire disk for “*.lnk” files.

To see details of existing links, right click, Properties, Details.

Paul T, thanks for the suggestion.  I did as you stated with the search and found a number of “missing links”  Now I just have to decide which ones were those removed by the upgrade.
