I bought a new Power spec from Microcenter in Jan. 21.

It has: CPU i509400 cpu @2.90GHZ;  16G RAM

I do try to postpone updates for a couple of weeks, per advice from AskWoody.

System says there are NO updates, but current one listed is 20H2 [oddly it was installed 10/16/21].

So how do I get 21H1 to install?

I am not complete novice, but not an expect.

    Thanks in advance.

[question. above my title there are two errors, Slow down; you move too fast, and Duplicate topic detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that.   I don’t understand the first one at all. Second one, I don’t see any duplicate any idea

Windows Update on my many years old HP dv6 laptop hadn’t show 21H1 until this morning when I got the wild hair to try to figure out why it hadn’t been offered.  My web searches unsurprisingly revealed numerous methods of manual installation but a common recommendation was to wait until it was offered.  This prompted me temporarily unpause updates, attentive to the fact that I was ahead of the November updates.  It was there, I am updated, all seems fine.

What do you mean by ODDLY ? Don’t you control your Windows updates: on Pro with GPEdit, on home with ‘metered’, ‘defer’, ‘pause’… or using WUmgr..

You can use on Pro GPedit to set TRV to 21H1 or on home use TRV registry hack to 21H1 and wait for Microsoft Update.

I do version updates with an ISO on a USB drive. Go here, download the Media Creation Tool and run it. It will get 21H1 and install it as a bootable USB drive. The only thing I would do beside accepting all defaults is pick “for another computer” (you’ll see it) so the USB can be used anywhere.

      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Then turn off the computer and restart with the USB in place. I’d do the installation offline, let the computer run for a while after installation until the os drive light settles down, then go online. Otherwise Win Update may try to install some bizarre stuff. Your computer will also go to whatever site MC has set up for OEM features, if they have.

Alternatively, on that page, just click the update button on top, much easier. I walked my daughter through that method over a phone a few weeks ago and it worked fine.

Do whichever method you choose soon before 21H2 replaces 21H1 on that page.

21H1 talks like a duck, walks like old duck:

My Dell Inspiron claims to be Win10 Home version 21H1 after following  Targetversion advice and installing the September-October updates  10/28/21.  But the 11/27/20 date in the simple Control Panel’s Computer Name matches only the 2020 articles on a then premature 21H1 release .    No problems but I’m jittery about how my now-uninstalled McAfee set such Modified-date-functions.   Like to hear of others’ glitches by 11/23/21.
