I bought a new Power spec from Microcenter in Jan. 21.

It has: CPU i509400 cpu @2.90GHZ;  16G RAM

I do try to postpone updates for a couple of weeks, per advice from AskWoody.

System says there are NO updates, but current one listed is 20H2 [oddly it was installed 10/16/21].

So how do I get 21H1 to install?

I am not complete novice, but not an expect.

    Thaks in advance.

      Windows 10 Home or Pro?

What are your current update deferral settings?

      win10 Pro

Not sure. I have gone to settings/ clicked on ‘pause for 7’; then clicked on ‘resume updates’.

When I check for updates, I still get ‘you are up to date’.

Although I have win pro, I don’t know how else to change deferral.

AKB2000016 Guide for Windows Update Settings for Win 10 has information about WU settings. Sections 1 is General. Section 2 is about Win10 Home, but there is a good description about what each of the settings do. The rest is more about Win10 Pro. There are screenshots at the bottom that show where each of the settings are located in both Group Policy (gpedit.msc) and the Registry (regedit.exe).

Since you have Win10 Pro, I recommend using the settings in Group Policy.
The current recommendation is to use the “Target Release Version” (TRV) and “Product Version” settings to to choose your version of Windows. Type winver in the taskbar Search box and press “Enter” to determine your current version and Build.

Thank you for sending me this information on windows updates.

Looking over the Group policy information, I see I will need to take some time to set deferrals.

Also, looking at how this is done, I am quite clear that I never did this.[set deferral].

Do you have any ideas on how to search to see why my updates have stopped at 20H2?

At this point I do want to get the 21 updates.  I may or may not set deferrals later.

      I don’t know how.

      I currently have Win 10 pro Version 20H2 [OS build 19042. 1348]

Thanks for all of your help.

The only two settings that are important are the “2” (notify download/install) and the TRV. Set the “2” as shown in AKB2000016.

Then look at your Group Policy and Registry settings for TRV. If you have run Susan’s script previously, your settings may be for 20H2. In that case, you will need to change the settings to 21H1.

Check both places. Then try setting TRV in Group Policy for 21H1 and let Windows Update offer it to you. See the location for both settings GP and Registry in #2286499, the last screenshot in AKB2000016. I may take a day or so for it to show up in Windows Update.
