There are lots of possibilities here. Try searching on Google under:
      multimedia CD presentation freeware

One candidate I found is Fresh View, which is freeware.

The autostart is not a big issue, and there are various little freeware apps that can be used to set it up; or you can do it manually. Whatever you choose, I’d aim for something quite generic (not reliant on Office being installed for instance) so that anyone to whom it’s distributed can view it. To this end, as well as avoiding “choking” on a single big file, I’d suggest an HTML presentation, like a website on CD.

Thanks for the tip. Have you used Fresh View? The only reason I am asking is that they require an e-mail address (non-hotmail etc) for the access codes. I tend to stay away from these unless they have been recommended only because I am wary of getting spam.

        Regards

Well justified paranoia too, I’d say! grin I haven’t used this one myself, but I used to use one of their other products some time back. Sorry, but I can’t recall whether it attracted any spam or not. It was just one “out of the hat”, so hopefully other loungers will be able to help with something they’ve tried themselves.

BTW, you could always try mailexpire – free temporary email addresses… to prevent a spamming… if they don’t spam you, that is!

I haven’t used the one recommended by Alan and I initially hesitated to post this one, for it doesn’t do “thumbnails,” only slideshows. Take a look at: LPJ-Software which is free and very easy to customize with its .INI file and autorun file. You can include music, captions, an opening title page, vary the order of presentation, etc. Even if you set the timer for presentation of each picture, the show can be manually advanced with the arrow keys. I’ve used it a number of times and recently downloaded an update. I’ve never gotten any spam but then again, the software requires no codes or registration, or for that matter installation.

PS I think I should move this thread now to the SOFTWARE forum so that it will not expire as threads here in Scuttlebutt do…

Thanks Big Al and Thanks Allan

I shall give a these both a try. I need to warn friends for being so overly ambitious with my limited IT skills
