Does anyone use the destop manager (virtual desktops) powertoy in XP Pro?

I’ve been playing around with it and I would appreciate the input of someone who’s used it a bit more, as the help file is pretty brief.

The main thing I want to do is be able to send an open window to a different screen, with shared desktops turned off, so for example if I open a browser in window 1, I would then like to be able to send it to window 2. Is this possible?

    Thanks,
    Mark

I played with it some, and it’s neet to be able to switch wallpapers and stuff, but I didn’t see any real advantage to using it. I just set up a new XP machine; I did set up TweakUI and a couple of the other toys, but passed on MSVDM. It did seem stable and caused me no real problems. I just didn’t see any real reason to continue to use it.

      YMMV.

I find virtual desktops very handy for having e-mail in one, word in another etc. I’ve been using a third party virtual desktop manager for a while in 2000, so when I got XP it seemed logical to use microsoft’s version instead. I like the integration into the taskbar, and it does seem stable, it’s just a matter of getting used to how it works.
If anyone can help me out with the original query I’d be grateful smile

Didn’t mean to duck your original question. The answer is no, I don’t think so. I did look, and what little information the Help file offers makes no mention of it.

Another detail I can pass along is that VNC (Bell Labs’ remote access software) doesn’t work well with it (it tends to screw up wallpaper settings), and I would surmise that other remote access software would have similar problems, because it’s remapping video in a non-standard way.

hmm, thats a good point.. I use radmin, I’ll have to see how that copes with it.

Shame about not being able to pass windows to the different desktops, that’s a bit of a limitation fir me…

Has anyone tried the Remote Desktop feature built into XP? Similar to Terminal Services, but now it’s available on Pro platform. And the Remote Desktop Client is a lot nicer than the older Terminal Services Client. XP’s client can run on any Windows 32-bit OS (and the best part is you can also use it to connect to W2K Servers running Terminal Services).

I haven’t used it, but I’m sure I will have a play at some point.. I’ll let you know how I find it wink As I mentioned i’ve been using RAdmin for a while, and I used VNC before that, so it’s old news really wink
