• MSSE and Malwarebytes Pro question

I’ve been running MSSE since it 1st became available. Recently I paid for the pro verssion of Malwarebytes.
This may seem like a strange question – because I’ve read comments here that they play well together – but: what protection would I lose if I uninstalled MSSE and just ran Malwarebytes Pro?

    Thanks,
    Dick

      Dick,

I’ve been running them in tandem since that 12 buck deal a week or so ago w/o problem. What you loose if you get rid of MSE is the second check. Since no one product catches everything it’s good to have a second/third/fourth line of defense. I’ve seen absolutely no degradation of performance running in this mode on either Win 7 HP w/MSE or Win 8 Pro w/Windows Defender. HTH

Malwarebytes dynamic virus check is inferior to MSE’s. That can be offset somewhat with the Pro edition’s ability to schedule daily scans but as RG indicated, no one product catches everything.

I have used MS Essentials in the past, but discontinued its use about a year or two ago, as it let several malware items past it to my computer.

I now use Malwarebytes Pro (paid edition) and AVG Free in tandem. What one doesn’t catch, the other one does.

My question is this: how well do the two software AV programs that I named play together? In my experience, no problem, but would be interested in other’s opinions.

      • #1385003

how can i schedule a daily scan when i can tolerate it

maybe that is why my machine is always stopping during the day
i did notice mbam running 50-100% of the cpu cycles

i dont mind it running late at night when i am done but not taking over the pc when i need to use it

      Thanks TerryR40:
I would be interested in other’s opinions also:
Anybody using Malwarebytes Pro and an other non-MSSE AV program care to chime in as to how well the 2 play together?
      Nicely, I hope . . .

      Dick,

I have been using MalwareByte Pro in real time with my AV app also running in real time for several months. No problems or conflicts at all. MalwareBytes seems to play well with various AV apps. I am presently using AVG AV 2013.

I am using MalwareBytes Pro with Avast Pro and Outpost Pro firewall with no problems and before Avast I used MSE. Had no problems with the two playing I just did not like the MSE updating program it was a little glitchy on my PC.

MalwareBytes Pro with Eset NOD32 Antivirus 6. No problems.

i can almost stand the update
but it seems to run several times a day

Hi, I have the same setup as Medico w/o a problem. love Mal

I’m running MWBPro + Avast!Free with no problems whatsoever – although I did have to add MWB to Avast’s ‘allowed’ web access list (full details on the MWB help pages). I also run SpyBot S&D and CCleaner on a regular (manual) basis.

i bought the pro version after the trial did a good job cleaning out malware

the pro version has been a big pain
slows my machine down a lot
sometimes it stops for several seconds and will not take a keyboard or click

it blocks good sites that i need to get to
they expect me to track down the ip and put it in some table so i can get there
instead of just letting me override it like norton asks me if i want to do it or block it

i am sure mbam is good but it has been a pain
probably going to rip it out and only use it as a batch program

for whatever good it has done
the price has been way too high

      Speedball,

      Open up MBAM
      Click the Settings Tab
      Click the Scheduler Settings Tab
      Select the Update line
      Click Edit button
Click on the time value in the Starting on: box
      Change to desired time
      Click Save button

As a “ham radio” op I use digital modes to transmit and receive messages using my computer connected to
a transceiver(transmitter/receiver). I was receiving “text error” reports. There were symbols and miscellaneous characters being sent. By using the tool available at the site in the link below I was able to track down
the cause the errors. By the process of elimination when I disabled Malwarebytes “protection module” that is
part of the paid version I stopped the errors from being sent. I also noticed a lack of “pops & clicks” in audio
that I listened to not related to “ham radio” activity.
The DPC latency checker at the below listed site shows “latency” occurring in your system. The link explains
all about “latency”. On the graph in the DPC checker I showed multiple “red” bars which are very high latencies. Disabling Malwarebytes completely eliminated the high latencies.
Otherwise I do not experience any problems running Malwarebytes and MSE.
I hope you find the “tool” interesting and helpful.

        yes

i want to use my pc for audio recording
adn cannot tolerate ANY program service ap helper whatever running on its own
as i need true full time real time operation with zero interruptions

    • #1390188

      speedball,

If you use a computer, you can never have real time operation. It does not exist in the digital world of computers. Interrupts are grabbing cpu cycles all the time. You can minimize the interrupts stealing time from your overall system by eliminating as much running services, operations and threads as possible and still be running but real time, not gonna happen. That is why there are loads of buffers in use in computers.

Malware/Spyware etc is NOT the same as a virus. While there is some cross contamination most are separate animals. There in the same family but that’s all. You need two different software solutions for each. Malwarebytes should run seamlessly with whatever anti-virus program you use. I run my Malwarebytes Pro with MSE, and before that with Norton with zero issues. Use both.

This thread may be ancient, but I wish to suggest the following to those who intend to run MSE and MBAM pro in tandem.
Go to settings excluded processes in MSE and add mbam.exe/mbamgui.exe and mbamservice.exe, clearly indicating their full paths as located in your Computer Save Changes
Go to Ignore List in MABAM interface and add C:Microsoft Security Cient
Once done, these two, wont identify each other as Malware or a virus and continue to do their jobs as assigned. Stagger your scans to approximately 12 hours. i run MSE early in the morning and MABAM late evening.
I have had no problems using both of them
Hope this helps others in similar situations.

While this is a good practice, I find the MBAM works quite well with other security software without the entering the exceptions. I have used it with MSE, Avira, and AVG without problems and without entering any exceptions.

Yes, I agree with you fully. However, Microsoft Community doesn’t even wish to accept this:angry:. They insist that we use the ” free ” version with MSE. I too have used MBAM without setting up any exclusions and it seemed to have performed equally well.
