I’m running Windows 98(original, not SE); the version of msgsrv32.exe is 4.10.1998. When I recieve new mail, typically upon launching Outlook 98, I get locked up. Task manager shows msgsrv32.exe – not responding. Sometimes I can end task, other times I get BSOD and have to reboot. I have researched this on the net and have found many notes about msgsrv32 causing all sorts of problems with everything under the sun you can install on a Windows 98 platform, but nothing that helps ME out. Is there a newer version of msgsrv32 I can use? Is there a patch I can download to fix this? Any ideas besides reload Outlook 98? Thanks in advance.

it’s not actually an outlook problem and since you can repro it easily, run doc watson to get a dump of the errors. see if it gives any other clues. i’m guessing if it’s associated with getting mail, it might be a TCP/IP driver. Maybe uninstalling that and reinstalling will work. modem driver might be an issue too.

my experience with msgsrv hangs was that only reformat worked
