After a clean install of Windows XP SP2 and then other programs such as Office XP with Office XP SP3, I have installed the appropriate updates for Windows and Office.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much – create a system restore point and install the update. If it doesn’t work out well, you can use the system restore point to return to the previous situation.

Sorry for so long time and no answer. I installed the update, after first creating a restore point (which I normally only do when in doubt if it will go well). Everything seems to work OK.

But I am curious; this so-called Hotfix Package is for Windows XP SP2 and is about 4.3 MB. That is quite big to fix something that may have gone wrong with KB832332.

If I take a look at the file “KB885884.log”, which is the smallest log file in this category, no files seems to be copied other than uninstall files. And a peek at:

I have no more information than is available in the MSKB articles. Again, I wouldn’t worry. If nothing has been altered, the installer for the patch may have determined that you already had the correct version or didn’t need the patch.
