I use MS Query in Excel quite a bit and a day or two ago it began acting odd. I hit Data and then Get External Data and I am able to pick my source and then it takes me to the Query Wizard…no problems so far…at the last page of the wizard there is an option to “View data or edit in MS Query” and if I select that the query disappears althought MS Query still shows in the task bar. If I right click in the task bar and choose Restore nothing happens. If I close it then it asks where I want to insert my data, just as it does at the end of the wizard.
Every other aspect of this add in works fine except for opening MS Query, all other queries I’ve created in the past still work fine, but I need to get into Query to add tables etc. for new queries.

I have tried to remove the add in and reinstall it with no luck.

If no one has an easy solution, can I uninstall just Excel and reinstall or do I have to uninstall all of Office?

You might try Detect and Repair from the Help menu in Excel.

Thanks for your reply but no luck I’m afraid.

Maybe this is a long-shot, but try uninstalling and reinstalling both the ODBC drivers and MSQuery – in case these have not been covered by a standard Excel Detect and Repair. HTH

Gave it a try without success (excellent suggestion though).
I bit the bullet and uninstalled and then reinstalled all of Office. Still had the problem. To make things even wierder I had a clone of my C drive on another hard disk from when there was no problem, I cloned the old drive onto the existing drive and I STILL have the &*(@##!! problem!!!
Microsoft web site has a KB of the problem (with a different type of database) but that suggestion didn’t work either.

It’s beginning to sound as if you’re accessing a database over the network and that the difficulty lies in the network connection.

I’m not sure whether this is a stretch for you, but have you tried, just for the sake of argument, running the SQL statement (used in MSQuery) in Access?

Access worked fine, I haven’t had a problem getting data, the problem was editing in MS Query. But I got to thinking about the network connection. I logged off of the network and tried to run a saved query. The query itself didn’t work, of course, but I was able to get out of the wizard and into MS Query. I then deleted myself off of the file server and created a new account for myself and lo and behold it worked joy (don’t really know why it worked but at this point I don’t really care).
Thanks for your suggestion, because the data was coming in fine I never would have thought of the network connection.
