Several news sites are posting that Office 2007 SP1 will be available for download on December 11, 2007. No details about changes yet. My question is this: How long (if ever) will it be before the MS Office 2007 boxes sold in stores have SP1 in them. How long before I can purchase a new MS Office that has SP1 in it? Informed guesses ok. Thank you
J. Till

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerDecember 9, 2007 at 12:36 am #1087484Hard to say – Microsoft is probably shipping boxes with Office 2007 SP1 now, but stores will sell off their current stock of the initial release first, so it depends on their sales levels when the SP1 version will appear on the shelves. If you buy the initial release, you can always download and install the update; if your internet connection is too slow for that, you can ask a friend to download it and burn it to CD for you.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 20, 2007 at 11:25 am #1089172My initial attempt to install SP1 failed. Download was fine, install progressed to ~98% and sat there for a while, then advised that it had failed. The “Installation Troubleshooter” was useless, although, with hindsight, it held a clue.
A Google found no direct solutions, but I eventually got the feeling
that the key was in the CD(s).
It was!
I placed CD 1 in the drive, retried the install, and was eventually presented with “Thank you for updating your Office products”.
NB; The install NEVER asked for the CD, nor was there any obvious sign that the CD was even accessed
