• MS FIXIT 51001 vs. KB 2879017 for IE

Before MS released KB 2879017 patch for IE, I installed FIXIT 51001.
Now that I’ve installed the patch, should I run FIXIT 51002 to remove 51001?

Man, it’s been hard to keep up lately!

The MS13-080: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer: October 8, 2013 KB article says nothing about removing Fixit 51001. The files affected by the Fixit are most likely replaced by the patch. If anything you should have removed the FIXIT before applying the patch.

Susan Bradley said, “If you installed the fixit, you don’t have to uninstall it before adding KB 2879017 — the official patch.”: Microsoft finally patches a zero-day threat

And Microsoft did say in the MS13-080 Update FAQ that reversing the Fix It workaround wasn’t necessary either before or after installing the patch:

If I applied the automated Microsoft Fix it solution for Internet Explorer previously described in Microsoft Security Advisory 2887505, do I need to undo the workaround before or after applying this update?
No. Customers who implemented the Microsoft Fix it solution, “CVE-2013-3893 MSHTML Shim Workaround,” previously described in Microsoft Security Advisory 2887505, do not need to undo the Microsoft Fix it solution before or after applying this update.

Very good. I don’t know how I missed Susan’s words but I now think I can pull one yellow sticky off my monitor!
      Thanks.
