      Hi Susan,

So is KB5039211 safe to install? The Patch List still says Defer for that KB. Just wanted to check to be sure it was OK.

      Thanks!

My apologies, got sidetracked trying to figure out the gmail image problem and forgot to upload the revised Master patch list.  Let me upload it.

      Try it now?

      Works !

      Thanks

Hmmmm.  Maybe this update shouldn’t take very long, but in fact it’s taking quite some time (an hour and a half and counting).  It took 20 minutes just to go from 69% to 70%.  Of course, no one can tell what’s really happening.

Hopefully this will finish before the sun goes down.

The sun has little to do with it.
Internet bandwidth, download size, computing power (RAM, CPU), drive type, drive free space, etc…..  🙂

      • #2683422

Similar here: one PC of mine has been stuck on “Status: Downloading – 0%” for the last five hours. Speetest.net reports 987Mbps download speed and 936 Mbps upload speed, so I don’t think Internet bandwidth is the culprit. Perhaps it is something with this particular PC. It isn’t my oldest or slowest PC.

I had that problem.  Rebooted the PC and when it came back it reported that the update was installed.  It seems that GUI stop updating for some reason?

To sheldon: Yes, could be that the GUI stopped updating. I rebooted my PC and then noticed that it had updating options in the Power menu. So did an update and restart and reopened Windows Update. PC started downloading and installing “KB5040370 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1 for Windows 10 Version 22H2,” which appears to have been released today, judging by the release date at support.microsoft.com. So now this PC is going through another update and restart process…..Microsoft just couldn’t leave .NET alone?

Same here!   Installing stuck at 44% for hours, then jumped to 74%…been there for couple hours.  HD activity light indicates some but only intermittent activity.  Going to let it run all night and, if no luck by morning, I’ll reboot.  Hope my other PC’s do better,  Unusual behavior even for this old PC.

Does Defcon 4 also include the KB5039302 preview update for Windows 11 as well. Should I also go ahead and install this one as well??

    • #2683444

No problems – installed in about 12 minutes.

      Ten computers updated so far.

All are “Consumer” Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2 machines.

All went well except that Microsoft Edge was installed on two workstations during the update process.

Also, downloads slowed after mid-morning and some machines struggled during the installation process.

I installed the update on my Windows 11 Pro Laptop this morning and found an option to download and install that I wasn’t expecting. I chose not to download and install. Should I have? Yes, I am using a MS account on my laptop.

No issues for me on a 12th gen. Intel Lenovo desktop. Nice to see Microsoft’s Recall has been recalled for now.

This stopped updating for several minutes several times, but no issues.

AMAZINGLY this fixed a long standing issue with Outlook 2010 (!) where html emails would display MUCH too large and require scrolling or shrinking. It appears that is fixed!

Always possible that was an EDGE update that fixed this, and hard to tell. But so pleased it now works!

May have spoken too soon 🙂 SOME are displayed correctly, some still not. So improved, not cured.

Updated without any problems. Had a preview .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 which I did not install.

Re the June updates for Microsoft 10 computers

I look after 6 computers at a place where I do some voluntary work. We have one windows 10 computer, and one win 11 computer and the remainder are win 7 (yes I know!!!!)

Attempted to update the win 10 computer yesterday after seeing no great issues on “Ask Woody”.

The update sat on 100% to start with ?????, then 20% then 43%, then 73%, and finally 74% in the space of 3 Hours. I usually ask for 1 hour to do the update which I am given ( this computer is in constant use by the office manager ).

After 90 minutes, I got fed up and restarted the computer –> Revolving circle –> and a note not to turn off the computer while it is updating .

30 minutes later nothing is happening so I bit the bullet and turned the computer off completely.

Power on and a reboot and a check for updates produced a 2 minute download of the update –> a normal install and all was well.  A second reboot ( I always reboot at least twice after updates ) and all was still well.

I turned on the “metered connection” again. (It is always on between updates )

3 hours which is a pain in the neck, both to me and the staff who cannot use the computer.

HEY MICROSOFT — THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An update should not take more than 15 minutes tops — Them were the days!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS — I do not interupt an update lightly, and I do have a Macrium Reflect image to fall back on.

this fixed a long standing issue with Outlook 2010 (!)

I have been using Outlook 2010 with Win10 22H2 for a long time now without this issue, so it must be some quirk of our setup.
