I currently use RealPlayer to download a few YouTube video files for the grand kids. Recently it seems that they are going more and more to the MPEG4 video format instead of the older FLV format. I cannot play an MPEG4 file after it downloads though. Player comes on and it shows it is playing, but all I get is a blank screen. Is there a way to tell RealPlayer which format to use to download in? I have tried to convert the MPEG4 files to WMV files, but all I get is picture – no sound. Does anyone know of a “Simple” program to copy MPEG4 video files to DVD and have them WORK ? Is there a better program than RealPlayer out there ?

AskWoody LoungerAugust 3, 2013 at 3:26 am #1404676I use my PS3 to play MP4 files without the need for conversion. I just burn them directly to the DVD without any 3rd party software.
If your primary goal is to view them on your PC, Freemake Video Converter works perfectly for all video file type conversions:

AskWoody LoungerAugust 3, 2013 at 3:21 pm #1404849My web browser if Firefox. I use The Download Helper extension that is readily available. The nice feature of it that appeals to me is a listing of all available download types and resolutions. It is very common to find several mp4 resolutions available through the Download Helper extension of Firefox.
My player is VLC which plays most anything I have ever downloaded.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 8, 2013 at 2:06 am #1405520My son uses either winx-dvd-author from http://www.winxdvd.com or dvdflick from http://www.divx.com both are free programs . I haven’t used them, but son reckons they are great.
A good free viewer is Finalmediaplayer available from http://www.finalmediaplayer.com -

AskWoody LoungerAugust 8, 2013 at 6:46 am #1405562addendum: Downloaded both winxdvd and dvdflick . Winxdvd simple and did a good job of converting six mp4s to vob ready to burn to dvd. Dvdflick is a bit complicated -will have to try it out again later. Also tried Divx , which is listed as free, but only for 15 days – uninstalled it. Finalmediaplayer is excellent.

AskWoody PlusAugust 8, 2013 at 2:15 pm #1405745Go to NCH software and download PRISM. It is free for noncommercial use and will convert almost anything to anything else in video an or audio.
If you go through the help menu you will find the info about FREE use.
i will also allow you to convert many at once. Make two folders download the raw file into 1, convert it and store it in 2 then burn cd/dvd from the 2. -

AskWoody LoungerAugust 9, 2013 at 5:49 pm #1405976From your post it sounds like you can’t “see” MP4 video in RealPlayer – presume grandson uses it too. Simple solution without converting anything, download VLC media player on both PCs. Micheal37713 mentioned this above. Whatever way you burn those videos to a dvd will still work. It’s the media player that’s causing the problem. Could also search for an appropriate codec for ERealPlayer, or fiddle with its settings to see if that helps. But sometimes it’s a lot easier to replace it rather than to figure out why it’s not working. Hope this helps.
