Is there any way of organizing mp3 files in a playlist order without prefixing with a number.

    01 my song.mp3
    02 a sample song.mp3
    03 eddies song.mp3

When these files are placed in a folder without the leading numbers the order is changed to:-

    a sample song.mp3
    eddies song.mp3
    my song.mp3

I want to list the files in a disciplined order according to my criteria. The purpose is to burn the tracks in my order.

If the objective is to burn the tracks in a particular order, you should be able to accomplish this within your “burning” program. I just took a quick look at Nero and it will record the tracks in the same order you drag them to the selection box. Nero does not re-order the tracks in alphabetical order.

If you’re trying to custom sort your mp3 tracks in an explorer window, you can do the following:

      1. Open the folder that has the music files
      2. From the menu, click View and then Details
      3. If your mp3 files were tagged properly, you should be able to click the column headings to sort your list.

I tried this and was able to sort my tracks by file name, album title, file size, duration (track time), track number, artist and year. Click a column heading once to sort by that column (ascending order); click the same heading a second time to sort by that same column (descending order).

      cheers

        Thanks Tricky

I tried your suggestion but to no avail, I only have Version 6.6 (fully updated) This new feature must be for version 7.

I found http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/FAQs_Product…M_Audio.html#11%5B/url%5D hope that link works, if not it is question 11 at that url. I have searched the forums and downloaded various shareware/freeware programs these merely placed the digits in front of the file that I have labouriously removed. My project is for 26 folders each with between 10 to 20 files.

You might want to ask your question here: CDRLabs – Nero Forum where a couple of Ahead/Nero representatives participate in the discussions. There is also a great group of knowledgeable people who participate there who are Nero and burning aficionados. grin

Thanks Pilgrim, I think I am after the impossible dream. I have placed a message at your suggested link.
