    https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1de7bu1/comment/l8gcjth/:

We’re planning to extend support for Windows 7 users past the currently planned date and give them better options for migrating to a new PC when they choose to.

This is very surprising to say the least. Does this extended support include 8 and 8.1?

It does include 8 and 8.1, I should have said that earlier.

The latest version of Firefox ESR 115, 115.15.0, was just released. Supposedly this version is the last to run on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (and the corresponding versions 2008 R2 and 2012 R2).

This intention to continue support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 was aired in July, and now, two months later, after the release of 115.15.0, we still have not heard an update whether Mozilla wants to go ahead with this or not.

Mozilla, please make a decision as soon as possible about whether you really intends to continue to support Firefox on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Don’t drag your feet any longer.

If this intention to continue support does materialize, it might come as updates to Firefox ESR 115 (and not ESR 128 as it only supports Windows 10 and later). So a computer still running Firefox ESR 115 on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 might receive updates like 115.16.0 and so on, for a time period that Mozilla will decide.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

Just saw a post in the Reddit post “Just 5 more days until the last Firefox update for Windows 7 and 8.x” by someone called MozRyanVM :

FYI, the plan to extend ESR 115 support for Windows 7 and 8.x users is moving forward as was previously mentioned in the AMA. We expect to have more official communications about it in the near future. Note that users on Win10+ and other supported OSes will still begin migration to ESR 128 on October 1 as scheduled.

The poster appears to be from Mozilla, and if this post is legitimate it means we can expect to see additional Firefox ESR 115 updates on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (and also the corresponding Server versions 2008 R2 and 2012 R2) after 115.15.0 in October.

Good news to me and other Windows 7 / Windows 8.1 users if this is true.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

No link to that reddit post then?..
I’m skeptical as the internet is full of wild goose chases these days 🙂

      EP, wow you were fast.

YES!! Great News! Firefox ESR 115 will be supported until at least March 2025 :

Apparently the same support will be available to MacOS Sierra / High Sierra / Mojave in addition to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Originally Firefox ESR 115.15.0 is supposed to be the final version to these systems. Now we will have 115.21.0 in March 2025.

Note that only on these older OS platforms will Firefox ESR 115 be updated to 115.16.0 – 115.21.0. If you are a user on Windows 10 and later, or on MacOS Catalina and later, and if you are still using Firefox ESR 115, then you will be updated to Firefox ESR 128.3.0 on October 1, the expected release date of the next update.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.
