• Mouse won’t roll backwards

This problem just started. The mouse will roll down as I read
but not back if I turn the middle wheel backwards. It will still go forward
down to the bottom of the page no matter which way I turn the wheel.
I have already tried getting the latest driver and reinstalling it.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks

Perhaps if you turned your mouse around so it faced the other way?

Is the wheel actually moving when you roll it up? My old wheel mouse would slip once in a while. I never got around to taking it apart and dabing a bit of rubber cement between the wheel and its rubber housing. You might give that a try if you think it’s the problem. If it’s software related, well, you’ll have to get in touch with the vendor.

The easiest way is to test it on another machine.
If that is not practical, you have nothing to lose by opening it up and checking for crud or a misplaced sensor.

At a guess, the way the wheel works is by having two sensors, A and B, which switch as the wheel rotates.
The wheel has a trigger which can switch either sensor A, or B, or both, as it rotates.
If A is switched on its own, the software decodes that as scrolling up.
If A is switched while B is also switched, the software detects that as scrolling down.
So, if B is incapacitated, any rotation will be detected as A switching on its own.

The sensors are generally optical or magnetic.
