I have Windows ME and a Intellipoint Explorer Mouse. The side buttons will not work in Netscape but do work in IE.
Does anyone know why????
Also I have to keep resetting the top wheel every time I restart my computer!!!!!!!!
What a pain.
Suggestions are welcome.

PS-I already have the latest driver.

Ditch Netscape.

Netscape most likely doesn’t use the same hook that IE does when it comes to going back and forward on a web browser. Unfortunately you cannot program a key sequence (yet) with the IntelliPoint software either.

When you say you have to reset the top wheel, what do you mean by that? Reset it to what? Does it not work after a reboot, or is it something different?

I have the top button set to delete when I push it. Every time i restart, it doesn’t work. I have to go back into the settings and set it up to delete again.

Hi

• #536890

You can use Markup tags to produce a real bulleted list.

Like this:

• first item
• second item
• third item
grin

Yes, but I don’t like the ‘filled in’ bullets. Sorry…

Here’s a sneaky way of getting the hollow ones:

• first item
• second item
• third item

In reply to your questions-yes, I went to the web site.
The properties screen only has 5 tabs–should there be 6?
USB–no “Human Interface Device”
How do I wake up the USB facility??
Thanks for the help

Make sure the drivers you have are for the Intellimouse Explorer (Intellipoint) and that it is plugged into a USB port (not PS/2 or Serial).

There should be 6 tabs when you choose Properties from the systray icon :

• Buttons
• Pointers
• Pointer Options
• Hardware
• Activities
• Wheel

In Device Manager, at the very end there should be a section named ‘Universal Serial Bus Controllers’ and listed in it should be:

• Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
• USB Root Hub

You should also re-boot, and during the re-boot process get to the BIOS (press F2 or DEL before Windows starts to load – it should tell you which) and when in there find and enable Legacy USB.

Come back if no joy.

Hi Eileen

• so that’s
• how you
• did it.

The latest version isn’t in the Tag Panel, though. Had to use ‘View Partial Source’ in IE to find the code. An extra
tag crept in. Sneaky – but useful.
Tx.

How do you view *partial* source?

Sorry, couldn’t resist that.

Hi Lennymay
Two possibilities spring to mind :

1. maybe this tab only appears when you have more than one mouse attached (as I have). We need input from somebody with only the Intellimouse Explorer to see if they have the tab or not. I think, though, if the correct picture of your mouse appears in the Mouse Properties screen, you’re ok.
2. you didn’t get the correct driver for your model when you went to the download site.

Hi Eileen :

Saves alot of sifting. You need MS Web Developer Accessories for IE5 (though they work perfectly well in IE6) from here.

You’ll need to scroll down the page. There are, in fact, four tiny downloads that enhance browsing. Although I’ve found no trouble with them, they are not supported by MS. (So what? you might say)

Hi,
Just to let you guys know, I have one mouse and 6 tabs under properties so it’s not a dual mouse thing. I’m running version 3.2 of the Intellipoint software incidentally.

Now running in a separate post here – so I’ll lock this thread up.

Just a bit of levity to give you a grin with your problem. When I tried to load my Logitech trackball under Win98, windows gives me a warning box that says “MS WIN knows better which mouse you are using and will load the correct drivers.” and then refuses to let me change the buttons. It is scarry when the program starts telling me it knows better what I want than I do. Anyway I stuck with default. I watch all these postings, this one in particular, to see if I might find a way to convince Win98 to do things my way.
