Hello! I wondered if anyone might have an idea on how to fix an issue I am having with my 2 1/2 year old Moto G6 phone. In the past couple of weeks, it seems that I can no longer delete text messages. Very occasionally, when I try, I will get the trash can icon, but mainly there is no icon bar or a trash icon to choose.

I can touch and hold individual messages, but once they are highlighted, there is no option to delete – no bar at the top or trash can icon. It also seems that when I now tap a message, it will toggle between showing the time/date the message was received and not showing it – but no way to depress/highlight and then have the trash can icon appear so that the message can be deleted.

Any ideas? I did download the latest update, but that didn’t help. I also tried clearing the cache and restarting, but it is the same thing.

This phone still runs on Android 8 – I haven’t upgraded it – so is it possible that updates now cause some strange behaviors since it is an older Android version?

I don’t want to delete all of the messages or lose some of them – just want my ability to delete single messages to work.

    Thanks!

OK – quick update. After more playing around, it seems that if I open a conversation and then actually touch the texting box as if to start a new reply, then I can highlight any older messages and delete, forward, share, etc. I am pretty sure it didn’t used to work this way – but for now, it seems that this is the solution.

Directions I’ve found online are similar to what I have always done:

To delete a single text message from your Motorola Moto G6, all you have to do is tap on the “Messages” application and open the conversation in which you want to delete a text message.

Find the text itself, and press your finger on it until a message box appears.

Select “Delete”. You then have a confirmation box that opened asking you if you really want to delete that text.

      Tap on “delete” again.

Doesn’t work that way now – but so far, “starting” a reply then allows older messages to be highlighted and deleted.

Thanks for reading and sorry that I posted before I had explored all of the ways it could be done!
