Two weeks ago I told you about a great deal on Office 365 Home from Amazon. This is the Real Deal, not some fly-by-night stuff. Now it seems Microsoft

AskWoody LoungerDecember 6, 2018 at 1:56 pm #238808That’s a good price, I guess, unless you’re like me and (1) live in Canada, and (2) have no need for an office suite anymore (one of the perks of being retired for 15 years!)
But please keep the deals coming Woody, I’m sure you have a lot of readers who can take advantage of them! Maybe next time will be the charm for me, too.

GuestDecember 7, 2018 at 6:30 am #238939According to multiple comments on one of the prominent deal sites (SD) MS allows you to stack up to a total of 5 years with this offer, whether you are extending an existing subscription or starting a new one. If I remember correctly the offer through Amazon only allows you to buy two at a time. I don’t know if you can buy another two and then another one after that if you want five total.

AskWoody PlusDecember 7, 2018 at 12:19 am #238907It’s for real! Just purchased it for a great price and added one year to my existing subscription easily, quickly and without a hitch. I had to wait for about two minutes for order to be processed and then link popped up to download. Followed instructions and confirmed with my account that expiration date had been extended for a year.
Thanks for the reminder and link!

AskWoody PlusDecember 7, 2018 at 12:28 am #238908By the way, if you look closely at the Amazon page that links to the download (redemption process) you will find your new product key identified as “Token.” I highlighted it and printed out a copy of the key–just in case.

AskWoody PlusDecember 7, 2018 at 3:09 pm #239046Definitely a good deal. A good opportunitey for those who need the full compatibility of the MS office suites.
That said, my cynical side says since it is SaaS, it is like crack dealers, “try it, on me, you will like it…”
My caution comes from adversion to the cloud, and also future compatibility with Windows 7 and 8.1, given MS saying the Office 2019 installer version will be for Win10.
I know this is one area I could be tagged a Luddite, but I do not fully trust the cloud (and MS data gathering), and being retired do not need instant access to my data at any time from anywhere. Recent events show this easy access is not always so, and eventually it will be hacked. Plus, if I did have the capability of instant access anywhere, I would not want it to be via a phone or tablet, but a laptop (with a keyboard), which already has Office 2010 installed. For the same reasons, I no longer have to be 100% compatible with organizational office suites and can get by on LibreOffice.
In fact, for years my main justification for MSOffice has been to get the version that included Outlook which we used at work and was therefore very familiar, but I now prefer Thunderbird as my email client on both Windows and Linux. For wordprocessing, I recently tried Wordperfect after a LOOOONG recess (22+ years), and still liked it more than MS Word due to the WP crutch of reveal codes, a real time saver.
However, I did forward the info to friends and colleagues who might wish to take advantage. Keep the info on these types of deals flowing.
