    Hi Everyone:
I’m not sure if this is hardware or software related. I have Win98SE & don’t really have startup or shutdown problems. I have a 17″ CTX 1785GM monitor, that I’ve had about 6-7 years.

I leave my computer on all the time & it goes into standby. Lately, when I try to bring it out of standby, the monitor won’t display.

I’ve tried switching off the monitor, then turning it back on. What happens is I get a green light on the monitor (showing it’s on), then it turns yellow (standby).

So far, the only thing that’s worked is to reboot to DOS, (by touch, since I can’t see anything), turn it off & wait awhile, then turn it back on, & reboot. Then I can regain my monitor display.

Any idea what’s going on & how I can fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

There is nothing wrong with your monitor, but “standby” is having a problem returning your system back to life. A simple solution is to leave the power on all the time to your system; it will not do it any harm, and just turn off your monitor.

Standby was intended for laptops/notebooks to extend battery time; standby and hibernation have always been problematic. Save your hair and turn them off and you will not loose any unfinished work.

Thanks. I’ll try that. I would have responded sooner, but I’ve been away for a week.
