If I add a field to a query is it then possible to add the field to an existing pivottable embedded on an Access form (which was created with the pivottable wizard)? Recreating the form is the only solution I have come up with. I’m using Access 97 SR2.

I haven’t used pivot tables in Access reports, but I have used them fairly extensively in Excel, extracting the data from an Access database.

My understanding is that the query that the pivot table uses is actually created in MS Query, which is why there is no updating of your report.

If you can locate the MS Query file underlying the report, then you might be able to update that. In Excel, I am able to use the Pivot Table wizard to go back and add the new field to the MS Query.

Unfortunately, that is the limit of what I know about these things, and I know you will have other questions – I do too!

      Good luck,

Thanks for the response. When I bring up the pivottable and launch the wizard the Back button is not available.

I don’t know if its because the form is created with a wizard or because the pivottable is embedded on the Access form.

I looked at some of the properties in the object browser but with no success. I don’t know if I’m on the right track or not, but the Sql property says it will return or set the Sql query string. I can return it but can’t seem to set it.
