Laptop opens in ‘Tablet Mode’ – but either drop down menu change (‘Use Desktop Mode’ and Use Appropriate Mode for my Hardware)  made in System > Tablet Mode Area are ineffective…

What version of Win10 are you using? 1809?1903? 1909? Home or Pro?
What/when was the latest update?
When did this problem start?

If you click on the notification icon (usually in the lower-right-hand corner), then click the Tablet Mode button there, is proper function restored?

It’s easy to hit this if you’re checking notifications or connecting to WiFi when using a touchscreen.

The important bit at Settings, System, Tablet mode is the first few words “When I sign in” …
