I was propmted to download an updated version of Explorer (not sure which version to be honest – I guess it’s the latest?) last night as the site i was wanting to see wouldn’t open without it (SimCity.com if you must know!). I downloaded it OK, although it took a while, I can now open the site but not the pictures don’t appear! I have a red “X” where the picture should be…I can right click on this and select “Show Picture”, but don’t know why it is happening. It also happens on other sites that i could access before without a problem. Is there something in the set-up i need to change??
    Thanks,
    Al. disappointed

Under Help about, what does it say for version? There have been threads about this before (can’t wait until we can search again). smile There’s no one cause or cure. Under Internet Options/Advanced, make sure “Expand Alt text for images” & show pictures is checked, & “Show picture download placesholders” is UNchecked. The encoding can also affect this. Changing the encoding while you’re on a page to use Western or Unicode sometimes helps.

If you can show pictures manually, then check that this setting is turned on:

      Tools > Internet Options… > Advanced > Multimedia > Show Pictures

One other thing to try is Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add_Remove Programs/scroll to Microsoft IE 6 etc.. Then select Add/Remove. A dialog box will open & you can select Repair. This often cures it.

However it does make some changes to my setup that I don’t like. When I’m done doing that, I do the following:
DUN didn’t work automatically. I had to go to Internet Options/Connections/LAN/ & uncheck the proxy checkmark & also uncheck the “perform security test”. Must also check Internet Options/Connections/Settings/Automatically detect settings. Must remove IE shortcut from desktop, Quick Launch, & StartMenu/Programs. Must remove Create Shortcut from SendTo menu & Show Desktop from Quick Launch.
          Hope this helps,

            Will try this later.
In the mean time I found post 273012 on 3rd July 03…it contains a lot of info and links to Microsof and Norton Personal Firewall….turns out I had to add it to a list of permitted sites (or similar). It was a bit long winded, but worked.
            Thanks for the help,
            Al.
