When I run My Norton Win Doctor, it says it can not fix 1 problem. I am missing my mscoree.dll file. Where can I get this file to reinstall it? I know it is an important file. I really dont want to go in and mess with my registry. The sites I have look at says I have to. Please help.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 22, 2002 at 10:44 pm #633924My reading of the notes about this file suggest that if you have not installed the software development kit for Microsoft .NET then you should not have the mscoree.dll file.
Do you have any problems on your computer, apart from this message from Norton Win Doctor? If not then I suggest you just ignore this message.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 23, 2002 at 12:37 am #633937SDK stands for Software Development Kit. Seemly you installed critical update “Microsoft.NET Framework Service Pack 2”, or “…Serivice Pack 1”, or “Service Pack 1 for Windows XP” (which includes these patches). Critical Update, mentioned above, put an entry into your Registry pointed to mscoree.dll, that bothers you. Because you didn’t install Microsoft.NET Framework (it is “recommended” update, but Microsoft states that “You need to install the .NET Framework only if you have software that requires it.”), you don’t have mscoree.dll in your installation.
If you want, you can install .NET Framework (see How to Get the Microsoft .NET Framework for instructions). This is 20.8 MB download, and if you don’t need it, I suggest to forget about it alltogether.
