Got up this morning and moved my mouse to wake my PC, to get an error message telling me that my Drive “D” needed formatting before I could use it. (D is a separate physical drive and is my data drive).

I looked at Disk Management Console, and found that my Drive was reset to “RAW”

Luckily I had an image of the console taken prior to this, and it showed

I checked The disk Properties, and it showed

I’m pretty careful with virus etc, and would be surprised if I was infected, but I checked anyway

Virus last update was yesterday 1t 16:00 hrs, Last system scan (all disks) was 01:00 till 03:58am and was clear with 0 Infected files.

I updated spybot and tested and it ran clear apart from the normal tracking cookies.

Incidentally I’m running Vista Home SP1

I checked the event wiewer and found

at 07:30 when IO woke the PC

“The driver detected a controller error on DeviceIdeIdePort0”

I was puzzling what to do next, when I looked at the Disk Management Console, and found that my Drive was sitting there quite happy and all was reporting well.

I’m currently running SEatools to see what it says, but I’ve never come across this prob before. Luckily my baskup system is fine, so I’ll lose nothing, but ……………

    Anyone any suggestions?

Just completed test of the disk under Seatools.

      It passed SMART disk Test

      Short Disk Test

      Long Disk Test

      Strange
