I have had this problem with two cash flow spreadsheets, each 14 columns wide. When I print them, with gridlines checked, the left hand 20% or so of the sheet prints without gridlines, they just stop in the middle of a column. Can anyone help?

Are the gridlines visible on screen ?. If you apply a background colour, even white – or whatever the default is, then the gridlines do not appear.

You could always resort to borders around the cells.

Do you literally mean ‘in the middle of a column’? – i.e. a cell is partially ‘gridded’?
Do you have any graphics on the sheet?
Are any of the cells merged?
Does data in a cell ‘over-run’ the width of the cell (which will prevent the vertical gridline being printed)?

I had a similar problem several years ago, and it turned out to be a problem in the display driver (Matrox). Yes, I did say the display driver. A new version fixed the problem. You might check to see if there are any upgrades for your display or print drivers.

      Andrew:
The lines are visible on screen, and in print preview.
I tried borders round the cells, it didn’t solve the problem.
      Lief:
Yes, cells 1-11 are gridded normally. Cell 12 which is about 25mm wide has lighter gridlines for 10mm from the left side, then blank. The heavier lins around subtotals make it as far as cell 14 then do the same thing. The vertical gridlines are normal.
There are no graphics on the sheet.
The top cell is merged, full width of the spreadsheet.
No the cells are not overfilled with data.
Legare I will try it out on another computer and printer.

      Thanks everyone for your replies.

Tried it on another printer (Xerox 470ST) and it printed fine. So it looks like a printer problem, which surprises me as the problem occurred with an HP LaserJet 5Si which normally is trouble free, and the spreadsheet is not very big.

I’ve mentioned this trick before, but think it worth repeating.
We have a mix of LJ4, 5 and 6 printers here. With their ‘normal’ drivers installed, each gives a different result – e.g. an spreadsheet will fit on one page on the LJ4, but spill over 2 or 3 rows on the LJ5.
Experimentation showed the LJ4 to be the most accurate – i.e. a 4cm square rectangle is truly printed out 4cm square.
To get round this anomaly, the LJ5 and 6’s are re-installed as LJ4’s and work perfectly.
        Might be worth a try.
