      Anything showing in device manager?
      See MSKB 310123.

What happens when you reboot? Do you see the drive activity LED flash? Have you eliminated the obvious first – that is, has the power or data cable wiggled loose (from the drive and also the data connector on the mobo)?

Thanks for the reply, the device manager error code is 39, all the cables are connected, I think i,ll need to do a clean install, Sob, any idea what the error code 39 means?

Did or do you have Easy CD Creator installed? The reason I ask is that an admittedely quick search at MS, looking for “error 39” under Windows XP, brought up two entries. One has to do with the aforementioned and there’s another article ( 320553) that talks about CD problems, not floppy. Maybe ya just got yerself a bad drive, huh?

MS error code list says error code 39 is: “the disk is full”. don’t know how that would apply in your case?

      hello

First, I’ve heard that you’ll get better performance when you wipe your drive and install XP fresh instead of installing XP over 98.
2nd, missing your floppy drive is a problem? smile I can’t remember the last time I used a floppy.
      You might check the bios.

      cheers

There are a LOT of people (including myself) who still use a floppy occasionally. They are still handy to use. argue joy

Thanks to you all for the help, I have deleted the CD/R but the problem still exist, I,ll log off and do a clean install, when (if) I get back online i’ll report the status of the floppy, Col

Hi, I’m back, I formatted my C: drive, and done a clean install, I have my floppy up & running, and I also don’t have an extra dialog box showing up when I right click any file, I am of the firm belief that one MUST do a clean install, no upgrades for me, I’ll sign off and wish all well for the future, Col
