In Word ’07 on an XP Pro computer, I keep a document minimized until I need it, but it will unminimize when opening another document from any location, including another minimized document. Is there a setting that will keep Word from opening any and all minimized documents when another one is opened/maximized? This behavior does not happen in Word 2010 beta on a 64-bit Win 7 Pro PC. A closed thread from a 2005 post notes this behavior on a PC with XP and Word 2002.

I have the same setup — Word 2007 running on Win XP Pro — and I can’t recreate your issue. I haven’t done anything that I know of to adjust how Word interacts with documents that are minimized to the task bar. The only setting I could find is in Advanced options that allows you to not display any but the current document in the task bar — a very inconvenient setting for me.

Here’s what I did: I opened several documents and minimized all but one. I then used Word’s Open File dialog to open a document and all the other documents stayed minimized. I also minimized all documents, then opened another by double-clicking in File Explorer and this, too, didn’t restore any other documents.

Am I correctly recreating your steps?

Thanks, Kim, I’ll try it when I get to the PC that’s the issue and note what happened.
