Slightly bizarre – are they made of real food or some sort of modelling medium?

I’m not sure exactly what they’re made of, despite scouring the site from top to bottom to find out. My guess is that they are some sort of modelling clay and tin foil where a metallic effect is required.

This link shows just how tiny these creations are.

If you have ever been to Asia (Japan in particular) you will see many restaurants put ‘models’ of their dishes in the window – with a price also shown. Language problems solved. Some are MUCH better than others.

This has evolved to become an artform as shown by your link. I’m not sure why this has never caught on in Europe (or Miami). Sometimes trying to figger out if “Tag######” is ‘dish of the day’ Tags – hit or if it’s ‘(something else) of the day’ can be a challenge. In French speaking countries it’s funny how differently they can prepare my favourite dish: La meme chose!
