Has anyone else noticed how many times they have needed to validate their installation of Microsoft software in order to download stuff?

Its not quite everytime, but it seems to me that it is reasonably often. Dont they have some way of ‘remembering’ the answer from last time?

Sure they do. But that would require someone in Redmond to write some decent code. nuts

They surely need to check it, because otherwise how are Microsoft to know that you haven’t sneaked an unlicenced version of the software onto your computer since the last time they inspected it?

      PS That was a joke!

Presumably if they had some way of “remembering” the answer, the hackers would crack that in 3 days and publish a file or registry setting that would mimic it.

          It’s been done.

Check out Brian livingston’s Windows Secrets News Update, about a third of the way down the page.

There’s a new version of the validation tool that operates differently. If you haven’t seen it yet you will soon. grin
