GuestJuly 25, 2016 at 11:49 am #38825Dear Woody,
As a non Win Beta person I am a little confused.
We are still at MS Defcon 2.
Will the Anniversary Update being discussed arrive on or before July 29 for everyone using Win 10?
If so, and we are at Defcon 2, when do we install the July updates for Windows 10?
Mine have been hidden until we got your go ahead to install them.
Thanks!

ManagerJuly 25, 2016 at 12:43 pm #38826We don’t know what’s going to happen on July 29. I’m guessing that MS will pull its GWX patches, and possibly its “Win10 enabling” patches.
For now, there’s no reason for anybody running Win7 or 8.1 to install any of the outstanding updates. (In fact, there are good reasons to avoid the Excel updates.)
For those using Win10 already, the Anniversary Update will arrive on or around Aug 2.
Thus, I’m unlikely to change the MS-DEFCON level until July 29.

AskWoody PlusJuly 25, 2016 at 1:46 pm #38827Re: the GWX patches … as you noted, no one knows what Microsnot will do with them when July 29 comes around. They may simply cancel them, delete them or change them immediately or at the next Black Tuesday.
Something, however, to consider is that many of us have the GWX patches hidden. As a few posters here have noted, hidden patches can become phantoms in Purgatory if the underlying update gets changed or canceled. May I suggest that those of us who have them hidden, UNHIDE them. That way, the status of the affected KBs can be properly updated.
Thoughts?
