Currently the ’life time’ for Windows 10 updates are trending to days – which indicates, that something is going terrible wrong at Microsoft. Either the quality control for updates are non existent – or the Windows as a service and complexity of the Windows 10 eco system is to high to be handled from Microsoft in a serious way. This isn’t a good sign for Windows 10 – imho.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 23, 2017 at 6:27 am #103585How can you expect to handle a complicated desktop OS just as Google handles Android? You don’t have to graduate MIT to know these are quite different – thousands, millions of possible configs, countless programs – it just won’t work that way. Especially if you expect home users (as neatly pointed out by Noel) to do beta testing for enterprises.

AskWoody_MVPMarch 23, 2017 at 8:35 am #103603After a longer than usual wait, WUShowHide claims no updates are available…
The Settings App confirms it:
Does this imply another change to the landscape (e.g., something offered has been rescinded), or that not everyone is getting the updates, or…?
On this test system, I have previously installed these KBs:

AskWoody_MVPMarch 23, 2017 at 10:18 am #103673I’m surprised to find the KB 4015438 patch (14393.969) being distributed through Windows Update on my main machine this morning.
And yet that one came to me 3 days ago.
I’m thinking there are server load balancing processes at work here.

AskWoody_MVPMarch 23, 2017 at 2:50 pm #103816This round of updates for Windows 10 is a funny one.
I am aware of 1607 which I use and indirectly by the other OS versions.
KB4015438 is distributed via Windows Update and not by WSUS – addresses some issues, home user related but not all
KB4016635 is distributed via WSUS and not Windows Update – this one addresses the CRM issue, of Enterprise interest, but also all previous issues fixed by KB4015438There are few other WSUS updates released yesterday/today depending on timezone, very likely all of them are related and address the CRM issues with Internet Explorer 11.
To clarify, regular updates are released at the same time for Windows Update and managed tools like WSUS, this distinction or confusion is what makes the current round unusual.
For most users who may get confused by the flood of new updates coming and being advertised here, the best action is to hold until Woody says it is alright to install, i.e. MS-DEFCON 3 or higher, which will be advised in due time, by the end of the current month.

AskWoody_MVPMarch 23, 2017 at 9:23 am #103624This update includes quality improvements. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. Key changes include:
Addressed a known issue with KB4013429 that caused form display issues with CRM 2011 on Internet Explorer 11.
Addressed the issue with KB4013429 that prevents users from updating apps from Windows Store with 0x80070216 error. The second fix might be more useful to most readers here who are on Windows 10.
It looks like a limited release though, no need to panic or rush into installing it if it is not offered on Windows Update and not an Enterprise user being affected by the CRM bug.-

ManagerMarch 23, 2017 at 8:01 pm #103895The link at the top – the one that’s automatically generated – is wrong.
Long story, but it’s an after-effect of installing the SEO package, which is supposed to improve search engine indexing.
The devs should fix it shortly. Meantime, the link in the text at the top of the post seems OK.

GuestMarch 27, 2017 at 3:00 pm #104763For those deploying via SCCM (using WSUS) – note that the two patches that were superseded for Win10 ver 1511 (4013198) and 1607 (4013429) – they were classified as “security updates”. Microsoft has superseded them with non-security “updates” – 4016635 and 4016636. Is Microsoft going to change all Win10 cumulative security updates to “updates”? This messes with my deployment ruleset.

GuestMarch 28, 2017 at 7:50 am #104846One question, if I’m not experiencing issues, would installing 4016446 be necessary now or will the fix (which can’t hurt to have eventually, of course) be included in the April cumulative IE update?
But on that note, anybody else unable to go to the Update Catalog? Tried last evening, with the link straight to the search results page, it initially loaded but immediately switched to an error. If I hit stop immediately after the page loaded, the error didn’t appear anymore and I could even open the update details popup (needing again to immediately hit Esc to be able to read anything, otherwise it switched to error), but download button did nothing. Today I don’t even get that far, search results page attempts to load for a few seconds, then error directly:
