    Win 10-1909

A week or so ago Windows Update wanted to update: Microsoft – Printer – 6/22/2006 12:00:00 AM – 6.1.7233.1

I thought it odd that a 2006 update was coming in, but decided to do it. It failed to install. Every day since, it tries again and fails until I finally hid the update.

    Throws the following error:

Thoughts? Ideas? It seems there are others with this starting Nov 5th for some or most. No answers I have found.

    Thanks.

      Welcome to the forum.

We usually suggest you not install driver updates as MS have a poor record in this area.
The “if it ain’t broke” motto is useful here.

Keep an eye on the updates, you may find MS updates / removes that one.

      cheers, Paul

      Thanks Paul.

This seems to be a very odd duck, aside from the good advice.

I have read elsewhere there are “optional” updates and if I recall drivers are part of that. But I have never seen an optional update on the Windows Update Setting page. I’m on 1909.  Just like others mention Feature Updates being separate and requiring separate downloading. Not for me. is there something I can set or change in my Windows Updates? I have GPedit postposing and wushowhide hiding everything I choose not to install (just 057, feature update and this printer driver now) and an uncheck for receive updates for other Microsoft updates. But the other settings elude me.

I am having this problem also. This update is offered on Windows Update, seems to update OK but the it is reported as a failure to update. The update is then offered again. I have tried to get it to install several times. Microsoft should remove it as an update day after day until they decide what to do with it.

Ditto. I’m running Windows10 Pro 1909 (upgraded to 1903 in August of 2020, then to 1909 in Early January 2021). I’ve noticed this pesky update come back time and time again since Early November 2020 (while running 1903). Using Nirsoft’s Windows Update History Viewer I can see that Windows has been trying unsuccessfully to apply this update 70 times since then. Sometimes 3 times in a day. I do not see anyway to stop the idiotic update. I’d love instructions for 1909 if possible.

I wish Microsoft would not update drivers without asking – I’ve seen them downgrade drivers to less secure versions. It’s very annoying for those of us that have a good OEM program to update drivers.

Use WUmgr (portable app) to hide these drivers (and any thing else you don’t want to install)
The drivers won’t come back until you unhide them.

It appears this has been resolved by updating (beta release) Malwarebytes. Bleeping Computer (Lawrence Abrams) has an article about the problem which disrupted networked printers.

After installing the beta revision the problem I noted has been resolved
