So if I am understanding this correctly, if all my activity is at my desk on my one PC, I don’t see any major advantage to having a Microsoft as opposed to a local account.

    Yes, no?

Password (and Bitlocker) recovery is easier with a Microsoft account.

I entered the oobe\ thing in the black box and it restarted my computer but brought me back to the sign in page that I was trying to to escape from! Isn’t there a way to set up a new computer WITHOUT needing to sign in to Microsoft? And what was the point of restarting my computer if I just go back to the same sign in page? Sorry if this doesn’tale sense. What I’m trying to do is just get the computer up & running without all this Microsoft ****.

If there’s a way to do this, please explain it to me as if I was a five year old.

Expecting to be told off for responding to the off topic post, easiest way I’ve found to use a local only account with latest W11 is 1. create a MS account 2. create a local only admin account 3. logon to the local only admin account and delete the MS account.

The easiest way is to create the Local ID during the OOBE process if you don’t want the association with Microsoft at all.

Not sure if its a major advantage, but you get Onedrive cloud with an MS account.  And even then I’d only call it an advantage if you understand that most of your files then come under <user>/onedrive rather than <user>
